Resumen del Proyecto Intercultural communicative competence has gained importance over the years in the field of foreign language teaching as an element necessary for effective communication despite cultural boundaries. Even though extensive theoretical discussions featuring the construct have taken place, practical implementation of ICC remains challenging. Therefore, identifying the factors that hinder its materialization become a primary focus. In this vein, the purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of a group of pre-service foreign language teachers as to the factors (teacher-related or learner-related) that may account for the development of ICC in the context where they study. To meet its objective, quantitative and qualitative data will be collected through a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The quantitave data will be analyzed statistically and the qualitative data will be subject to thematic analysis. The results will be then confronted to determine the types of factors that predominate as being the source of interference in the development of ICC.
